Born in Taipei and based in Manchester
Clare Chun-yu Liu 劉純聿 is an artist filmmaker and a PhD Candidate at Manchester School of Art, Manchester Metropolitan University. Funded by the Vice-Chancellor Scholarship, Clare is currently undertaking a practice-based fine art PhD on re-interpreting chinoiserie from a perspective informed by postcolonial thinking and her personal context of coming from the Chinese diaspora and Taiwan. There are three case studies of cultural heritage sites and three artist films as part of the doctoral research. Outside of the PhD, she has been making moving image work on the Chinese diaspora informed by her familial background.
